Courtesy means to be polite and unselfish towards others. The simplest way to show good courtesy is to always say “please” and “thank you.”

Courtesy shows respect and earns respect. It shows care for others, before one’s self, and people appreciate that kindness. The small reward, of someone’s gratitude, that we may receive for our courtesy makes us feel good. While we value the positive response, courtesy is its own self-satisfying reward as well.

Courtesy is the ideal, the state of our world and relationships that we strive to achieve. We aren’t always able to control the actions of others, but we can teach others the value of showing respect through courtesy. Leading by example might well be the best teacher for others to learn from.
