Honor means keeping your promises and being honest with others. This will continue to earn and be deserving of the trust and faith that others have in you.
Honor is a gift that a person gives himself/herself. Honor comes from listening to your conscience and behaving with integrity. By having honor, you demonstrate morality and continue to show loyalty, respect, humility, courage, and duty. Honor is often misinterpreted as “pride,” and though it certainly is a source of pride, honor demands modesty from those who have it. True honor comes from deserving respect regardless or whether it is received.
At the end of each class, we vow to “have honor with others.” This is a promise to aid one another in our understanding of it, to promote the martial arts, and to advance as practitioners. Honor is strength of character. Strength of character, mind, and body is the Spirit of Taekwondo!
